About Chip Verspyck

Chip's full first name is actually Chipman, it's an ancestral last name that was given to him for his first name.  Many of his close friends call him Chipman instead of Chip, a nick name flip if you will.  Originally from Toronto Canada, he moved to the USA as a kid.  His last name Verspyck, (pronounced Ver - speak) is Dutch, his father moved to Canada from Holland right after WWII.  Chip had formal jazz and orchestral music training with the trumpet beginning at the age of 9, later doubling up on horns with the sax in high school.   Shortly after graduating with a music degree from the University of Vermont in 1994, he decided to pursue a career in the technical and production side of recorded music. After attending the Institute of Audio Research in 1995, Chip worked as a staff recording engineer at Sound on Sound and Chung King Studios in Manhattan, and then moved upstate to the legendary Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, NY.  At Bearsville Studios he transitioned from a recording engineer to repairing, maintaining, and installing its vast array of legacy recording equipment as a maintenance engineer.  At the turn of this century, all of these world class facilities and countless more just like them closed their doors due to a major shift in the music business.  An explosive growth of smaller private and semi-commercial studios has since taken their place, some built to the same standard as their big predecessors, but with much lower overhead and little to no staff. Many of the revered mixing desks and analog equipment from the big studios has found new homes in private tucked away spots, many of which are right here in the beautiful Catskill Mountains and Hudson Valley of Upstate New York.  In 2001, Chip started Tech It Out Inc as a consulting technician, electrical engineer, installer, and designer providing solutions for the technical audio needs of this ever evolving music business.  In 2009, Chip met Henry Hirsch.  At first Henry was Chip's client for maintenance of Henry's vast vintage gear collection at his Waterfront church studio in Hudson NY, notably a very special Helios Console(now owned by Sound Toys).  Henry and Chip have since partnered developing and prototyping new equipment designs.  Now since the Covid19 pandemic, Chip has been dedicating all of his resources into solely manufacturing these designs, notably the VH compressor and no longer provides his past services.
